A legend among Irish fly dressers and beyond, APGAI Ireland is proud to number Ted Malone as one of its members. Having served in wartime RAF Coastal Command, he trained as a teacher but later held a senior post in Social Services. A former director of the Ulster Angling Federation, his passion for conservation was paramount.
Ted’s fly dressing skills were incredible and his knowledge of Irish salmon and trout patterns was unsurpassed. His books on these subjects remain the benchmark for all Irish fly dressers today. Ted passed away aged 99 and a celebration of his life near his home in Belfast on what would have been his 100th birthday was attended by dozens of well-known fly dressers from all over the world – a tribute to a remarkable man.
