We offer three accredited skills course through OCNNI (Open College Network Northern Ireland).

Open College Networks (OCNs) are licensed by the National Open College Network which is a body formally recognised throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe. They comprise locally managed, not-for-profit partnerships committed to providing a flexible and responsive local accreditation service for a wide range of learning activities.
There are more than 2500 centres offering NOCN qualifications and/or OCN accredited provision. They currently have over 100 qualifications on both the National Qualification Framework (NQF) and the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF).

The APGAI-Ireland/OCNNI awards cover the three Game Angling skill sets of Single Handed Casting Instructor, Double Handed Casting Instructor and Fly Dressing Instructor.

The awards comprise 8 – 10 modular units, many of which of which are transferable between the three skills sets e.g. First Aid, Coaching, Knots and Rigs etc.

These courses comprise a number of units that range from specific technical instruction and accreditation on specialist disciplines to general units on First Aid, Child & Vulnerable Adult policies, Power Boating, Risk Assessment, Health & Safety, Customer Care, teaching techniques and Angling Law. Successful students will be eligible to become members of APGAI-Ireland and avail of our unique insurance schemes, mentoring facilities and an enhanced Access NI or Garda Child Protection/Vulnerable Adult Clearance Certificate.

These awards equip successful students with the teaching, technical, safety and legal requirements to coach all age groups and offer credible employment opportunities.

Each course carries its own specific award but should a candidate wish to be assessed in a number of disciplines, there are units which are common to all courses that only need to be attained once and thus may carry over into the other disciplines. The average time spent on a Level 3 Diploma Course is 4/5 contact days (classroom & training area based) followed by at least 300-plus hours of home study, project work, tutorials with senior instructors and home practice and finally a one-day assessment day involving both practical and written assessments. Course costs will be subject to numbers enrolled and venues required but as a guide price the Instructor courses will cost circa €500-€600 or £450-£550.
